ASLA Student Chapter
The SC/ASLA is the official student body organization recognized by ASLA, the professional organization representing landscape architects nationally and internationally, and its local chapter, the Louisiana Chapter ASLA. Elected officers of the Student Chapter ASLA sit on the Executive Committee of the Lousiana Chapter and there is a representative, elected from all student chapters, that sits on the National ASLA Board of Trustees. As a liason between students, ASLA and practicing professionals, this organization provides its members contacts with other students, schools and professionals locally and nation-wide, gives them access to valuable literature, information and jobfinding opportunities, encourages commujnity service and in general prepares students for their professional careers. In addition, SC/ASLA represents the student body on various School committees, makes recommendations to the Director, hosts visiting speakers and scholars, organizes various scholarly and social activities and has web links posted through the local state chapter's own web site. All students are encouraged to participate. The national dues are $43 per year, which includes a free subscription to Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM), discounts to all fee-based National and State Chapter/ASLA services and events--including their Annual Meetings, bookstore offerings and a one-year free membership upon their graduation.

The grand entryways into campuses, districts, and downtowns are memorable and important spaces in the city. This competition, to design the interchange between Rt.10 and Dalrymple, offers us the opportunity to consider this entryway in a completely different way. Students and visitors use the exit heavily as a primary transition to the LSU campus making it the front door to campus for many people.
Users are forced into a rapid transition zone where topography, speed of movement, and views change quickly. The complete lack of design of the interstate exit offers an opportunity for creative and unprecedented strategies. The relatively small size of the site also allows for a clearly imagined solution to a much larger problem. Projects should also be sustainable and fairly easy to maintain. The winner will have the opportunity to work with the client to develop plans for a $50,000 renovation of the site.
Submission Requirements:
Proposals may be submitted individually or in groups
1 24”x36” board containing at least one plan, one section and a maximum 250 word concept statement
Entries will be judged anonymously so no names should be on entry boards
Questions should be directed to Will Benge at lsu.asla@gmail.com
